The Metroid Prime Demo is a kiosk demo that was playable at retailers prior to the launch of Metroid Prime. It has since leaked online and has quite a few differences compared to the final game. The internal build date is July 24, 2002 14:11:18. However, there's a few indications that it's actually older than that and this was simply an old version of the game that was slightly modified and recompiled; possibly the E3 2002 demo, which would date this demo to April/May 2002.
